About
Los Angeles, CA – Writ Large Projects is excited to announce its Silent Art Auction Fundraiser,
"Writ Large, Bid Larger," on July 28th at Ren Gallery in Downtown Los Angeles. This event aims
to raise funds for our ongoing literary projects and activations in L.A. and the opening of our first
brick-and-mortar space, a revolutionary approach to the bookstore as community center in
Braddock, PA.
Chiwan and Judeth have spent the last 10 years living and learning in Pittsburgh. Braddock is a
predominantly Black town just outside of Pittsburgh. It is the historic home to Andrew Carnegie's
US Steel and the first Carnegie Library. When the steel industry collapsed, so did Braddock. The
population is now only 10% of what it once was. For decades, countless buildings have been
boarded up and remained empty. Writ Large Literary Laboratory (W3L) will be a community
gathering place, writing and literacy center, media lab, coffee shop, bookstore and a
community-based, technology research lab that supports the community and honors the
neighborhood’s culture during this period of regrowth.
The evening promises dynamic art, lively performances, and a chance to support the vibrant
literary landscapes of both Los Angeles and Braddock. Attendees can bid on original works,
signed prints and other objects of desire from renowned and emerging artists and creatives who
support our mission.
Participating artists include: Nathan Ota, Melora Walters, Mari Naomi, J.T. Steiny, Brandon
Hunter Harrison, Taz Ahmed, Risk, Alan Nakagawa, Pavel Acevedo, Sergio Teran, Alvaro
